The Social, Behavioral Sciences, and Education pathway at Gulf Coast State College encompasses many of the more important career fields in the country. From STEM degrees and health sciences education to humanities degrees and behavioral and social science, this pathway has something for nearly everyone.
As a student in the Social, Behavioral Sciences, and Education pathway, you鈥檒l develop essential skills in advanced research and data interpretation鈥攁s well as understanding the connections between human behavior and societal development. You鈥檒l also strengthen professional tools like effective communication, collaboration, and leadership strategies to prepare you for a broad spectrum of careers and bachelor鈥檚 programs in education, behavioral and social science, and law.

As exciting as it can be to enter college, we understand that deciding on a major or program of study can feel like a huge decision鈥攅specially with so many unique options. To help you choose between STEM degrees, education programs, and humanities degree paths, we鈥檝e designed a dedicated pathway that will guide you through your entire college journey.
You鈥檒l be assigned a Pathway Navigator who will help you settle into the Gulf Coast campus and is experienced in behavioral and social science, and education. They will act as your guide as you choose between education programs, socials sciences, and education degree paths. And if at any time you decide that the pathway you鈥檝e chosen isn鈥檛 right for you, they will help you find related pathways that are a better fit.

How our Social, Behavioral Sciences, & Education pathway works for you
Explore your options in education and behavioral and social science.
Explore courses in health sciences education, behavioral and social sciences, and law. Or dive into biology and chemistry in one of our STEM degrees. If you鈥檙e more interested in philosophy or religion, you should consider a humanities degree pathway that will let you study the history of people鈥檚 beliefs and ideas. Your Pathway Navigator and career coach can help you find the perfect program based on your strengths, interests, and goals.
Choose your path.
After you and your Pathway Navigator settle on a degree pathway for you, you can then decide on what kind of degree you want to earn, based on your immediate and long-term career goals. If you want to earn credit to transfer into a bachelor鈥檚 program, you can earn an Associate in Arts. Or if you鈥檙e more interested in starting your career right away, you can earn an Associate in Science degree, which will prepare you for the job market and entry-level positions in your field. For students who want to become child care professionals in Florida, we also offer a credential program to jumpstart your career. Whether you鈥檙e considering one of our STEM degrees, a program in behavioral and social science, or a humanities degree, you鈥檒l find a pathway tailored for your academic and professional goals.

After graduation, you鈥檒l have the skills and knowledge to go on to another institution or find a rewarding career helping others. Past graduates of Gulf Coast鈥檚 Social, Behavioral Science, and Education pathway are now studying at the University of Florida, Florida State University, and the University of Central Florida鈥攚orking to earn advanced degrees and complete programs in education, and behavioral and social science.

This pathway covers a wide variety of degrees and programs鈥攊ncluding behavioral sciences, behavioral and social sciences. We offer an Associate in Arts for students looking to transfer to a bachelor鈥檚 program; an Associate in Science for those interested in beginning a career as soon as possible; and a credential program for aspiring child care professionals in Florida.
